California State Old Time Fiddlers Association is dedicated:
"TO PRESERVE AND
PERPETUATE AUTHENIC OLD TIME MUSIC"
Old-Time music is a part of our cultural heritage. The style originated in England, Ireland, and Scotland. Fiddlers were ever present in wagon trains and around campfires as the early pioneers made their long journey across the prairies and mountains, bound for the west in California and Oregon. The music found its way to the western homesteads and was heard at barn raisings, community gatherings, and dances. District 8, in keeping with this heritage, provides Jam sessions on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month (except for December), at 1:30 to 4:30 PM. Attendance and parking is free; we are open to the public; and refreshments are available. We play family oriented music and welcome dancing. Currently meetings are held at the Oak View Community Center, 18 Valley Road, Oak View, CA 93022. The club is family oriented. Old-time music is enjoyed by all ages, young and old alike. A club goal is to encourage and sponsor aspiring fiddlers of all age groups. There are special functions throughout the year. These include contests, dinner, and dances. We also fulfill community requests for musical entertainment. Requests are many and varied. We particularly enjoy sharing our music with schools and those who are confined to hospitals, rest, and convalescent homes.
